Today there is a greater reach for giving birth naturally. Most likely due to the fact we have more access to information and woman are educating themselves on why having a natural birth can be so beautiful and intoxicating.

Most women think natural birth looks the way it’s portrayed in the movies, which isn’t the case.

Why is it more difficult to get a natural birth experience in the hospital?

We live in a world where things are becoming less natural all the time. Sometimes it is because toxins are added or science tries to recreate the natural process using isolated components to create items such as synthetic vitamins.
If you are looking for an all-natural birth ask yourself “Is it really possible to get a natural birth inside of a hospital?”

Think about what happens there….
-IVs are not natural
-Continuous fetal monitoring is not natural
-Restricting food and fluid intake is not natural
-Inducing labor is very unnatural

When a laboring mother is given the choice of all of the above, she is even more challenged in her attempt to accomplish an unmedicated, ‘natural’ birth. The odds are against her.
Ina May Gaskin, a world-renowned midwife said, “We are the only species that doubt our ability to give birth.” We’ve been programmed to believe that we can’t have a successful birth unless we have these additives, which simply isn’t true.

Organic, Natural Birth

Loretta Shupe, our midwide at My Family Birth Center said “At a birth I participated in recently, it was so refreshing! The mother had trepidation on attempting a birth where medication is not administered to help with pain relief. However, she found that the ‘organic’ version of childbirth was much easier to work with than her previous hospital birth. She was very amazed. Her baby was born so calm. She asked why that was.  I told her it was “because your baby had a ‘gentle’ birth.” I might add, her baby had an organic, natural birth.”
This is not something that is uncommon at our center. We’d love to share additional insight on natural birth and determine if it’s the right fit for you. We look forward to hearing from you!
