Shaley’s Birth Story
The biggest difference between a hospital and a birthing center is that my birth plan was accepted from the start. I didn’t have to explain my wishes over and over. They were on board from day one, and even offered helpful suggestions to make my unmedicated birth successful.
I delivered my baby in the water, and it was such a cool experience. I wasn’t connected to machines or IVs, which made everything so much more relaxing. After the birth, they gave clear instructions for taking vitals and then stepped out to let me enjoy quiet time with my baby. There were no constant disruptions like in a hospital.
If someone is unsure, I would say there’s no harm in coming in for a consultation. The environment speaks for itself. It feels peaceful from the moment you walk in, and you’ll be surrounded by people who know how to guide you through an unmedicated birth with confidence.
I’ve done both an unmedicated hospital birth and a birthing center birth, and the difference is night and day. The birthing center made me feel more empowered, educated, and supported throughout the entire process. The midwives are by your side every step of the way, encouraging you to do one of the most empowering things in your life.
If you’re thinking about it, go all in. You’ll be well taken care of, supported, and equipped to have the birth experience you truly want.
